In the year of Our Lord 778, Charlemagne, king of the Franks and Lombards, conqueror of the Saxons, stood poised for the final victory of his long campaign against the Saracens. There had been fierce resistance, but the Frankish army was too strong. The whole of Spain crumbled. All except one city, that is. Against all the odds, Saragossa continued to resist. But for how long?
