Trio for clarinet, violin, and piano played by Phil Cardew (clarinet) ; Edward Silverman (violin); Margaret Good (piano)
Aram Khachaturyan was bom at Tiflis in 1904, but did not study music until comparatively late. In 1923 when he went to
Moscow to become a student he had no theoretical knowledge at all and little or no listening experience even of the classical repertoire. However, within three or four years he had mastered the difficulties of composition enough to write a ' Dance ' for violin and piano and a 'Poem' for piano that were published by the Armenian
State Publishing Department. Then after five years at the Moscow Conservatoire he embarked upon a distinguished career as a composer.
His Trio for clarinet, violin, and piano was composed in 1932, when Khachaturyan was still a student at the Conservatoire.
