The fashion industry is Britain's fourth highest earner of foreign currency and its students are among the best in the world. Alas, few of them go on to work in this country.
"We have something like colleges in Britain offering fashion training compared to 23 In Italy, 72 in France and 58 in Germany," says executive producer, Roger Casstles. "But there are not enough jobs to go round and until the fashion industry starts to invest more in the young talent of this country, many of these highly-talented young designers will continue to move to continental Europe to find work."
This special edition of The Clothes Show is devoted entirely to Graduate Fashion Week where 3,000 students will showcase their talents, 750 of them putting on possibly their first and for many their last catwalk shows. Jeff Banks, Caryn Franklin and Brenda Emmanus watch the shows, talk to the students about their work, and ask established designers how more can be done to employ young talent.
