Four Irish Dances i. March Jig; 2. Slow Dance; 3. Leprechaun's Dance; 4. Reel
SIR CHARLES STANFORD was an Irishman, and in his compositions was never so happy as when dealing with Irish National music. These Dances were originally written for pianoforte solo and scored later. The March Jig that he uses is known as ' Maguire's Kick ', the Leprechaun referred to in the third dance is the name given to a gnome, a familiar figure in Irish fairy lore, who was often malicious, but the principal thing about him was that he knew where hidden treasure was to be found.
