MILDRED WATSON (soprano)
THE LONDON ENSEMBLE TRIO:
Harold Fairhurst (violin) ; Helen Just (violoncello) ; Hetty Bolton (pianoforte)
Trio in F, Op. 18 Saint-Sagns i. Allegro vivace; 2. Andante; 3. Scherzo : Presto ; 4. Allegro
Saint-Saens wrote eighteen chamber works, including two piano trios. No. 1 in F was written in 1863 when the composer was twenty-eight years of age. It is full of youthful vitality and high spirits, particularly in the Scherzo with its lively cross rhythms and pizzicato effects. The slow' movement is a charming and expressive piece of writing.
