Records of Elisabeth Schumann (soprano)

Elisabeth Schumann was born at Merseburg in Thuringia, and can claim descent from the famous singer Henrietta Sontag. She began her operatic career at Hamburg. In
1919 she was invited by Richard Strauss to join the Vienna Opera. and two years later she went on tour with him throughout Europe. Elisabeth Schumann is now considered one of the foremost singers of lyric opera and lieder in Europe.
