Rabinovitch leads a double life - as an assistant to his conservative father, the cantor of a New York synagogue, and as an aspiring pop singer and composer. When a stunt to help a musician friend lands him in jail, Jess is forced to confront his father with the truth. In spite of a promise to forget his musical ambitions
Jess soon returns to writing and performing. When the cantor discovers this a rift opens up between them that may never be closed.
