George Herbert was, from 1630 to 1633, rector of Bemerton, a village close to Salisbury. Herbert was recently the subject of a talk by Edith Olivier in the series ' Western Worthies '. In this talk she mentioned that Herbert's book of poems ' The Temple ' sold twenty thousand copies in the forty years following his death.
