Forty years ago today a young woman aged 27 left Buckingham Palace for Westminster Abbey to be crowned Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen of This Realm, Other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth and Defender of the Faith.
Today, highlights of the original BBCtv outside broadcast coverage of this extraordinary event are shown. They include the procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey, the Coronation service and crowning, the state procession through London, the Queen's appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, and the RAF fly past.
