Last week at a luncheon in the Hilton Hotel,
London, the Variety Club of Great Britain paid tribute to showbusiness celebrity and broadcaster Monty Modlyn for his outstanding support of the Club's charity work for children, ranging over a total of 40 years. Monty began his broadcasting career on 6 April 1942. Libby Purves , who represents today's generation of young broadcasters, and Monty reflect on the changes in broadcasting since the early 40s and recall some of the broadcasting highlights that have brought him acclaim and success.
