on National Programme Daventry

View in Radio Times

ADVANTAGE has been taken of the lull before the commencement of the autumn talks programme to devote a short series during September to a survey of event's in the main countries of Europe. Current affairs, mainly in their political and economic light, in Germany, Austria, Russia, Spain, and Italy, will be discussed by authoritative speakers, whose first qualification is that they have just returned from the country they describe. The talk on Russia will be divided. Mrs. Sidney Webb, who, with her husband, Lord Passfield, has after a very thorough'survey established the main points of Soviet economic advance to date will present them on September 22, supplemented by an expert from the Empire Marketing Board, who has just concluded a minute examination of Russian agriculture. The countries represented in the series are the storm centres where events are at the moment moving most quickly, and listeners may expect competent, interesting and intensely topical surveys.
