In many parts of the world rabies has been one of man's most feared diseases, its victims often dying horribly in great pain and distress. Rabies has been spreading westwards from Central Europe at the rate of 25 miles or so a year, and has recently accelerated towards the north coast of France. The natural progress of the disease to this country is checked by the English Channel, but the landing of an infected animal could result in the rapid spread of rabies throughout the British Isles.
What are the difficulties in the control of rabies? Can human victims be treated? How would the presence of the disease affect life in this country? Narrated by Paul Vaughan
