Killing Me Softly

on BBC Radio 4 FM

The so-called suicide song, Gloomy Sunday, was a worldwide hit recorded by Paul Robeson , Billie Holiday and many others in the 1930s and 40s. But there were reports that its melancholy lyrics and haunting melody were influencing dozens of listeners to take their own lives, and a scandal ensued.
