Three Great Stars: Edison, the Man

on BBC One London

[Starring] Spencer Tracy
The films of three great screen actors - Clark Gable, Tyrone Power, and, here Spencer Tracy with Rita Johnson, Lynne Overman, Charles Coburn, Gene Lockhart, Henry Travers, Felix Bressart

Tracy's role tonight is that of Thomas Alva Edison, the American inventor, whose work in the latter part of the nineteenth century brought many technological benefits to a waiting world. Whether Edison was first to invent all the devices with which he is credited may be open to question: his genius lay in turning his inventions to the immediate and profitable service of mankind.
Tracy resorts to make-up only for brief scenes of Edison in old age -for the rest he relies on a natural resemblance and a characteristic sincerity.
