Translated and arranged by Rayner Heppenstall from the short novel
' Les Lauriers sont coupes ' by Edouard Dujardin
Produced by Rayner Heppenstall
Les Lauriers sont coupes, first published serially in La Revue Independante in 1887, was the first recorded example of novel in ' interior monologue ' or ' stream of consciousness ' form. It strongly influenced lames Joyce, who picked up a copy on station bookstall on the way to Tours in 1903.
