St. Mary's Church, Inverness, was erected in 1792, replacing an older one on the same site built in 1649. Immediately after the battle of Culloden the church was converted into a hospital and prison for the followers of Prince Charles Edward.
Among the interesting relics from the older building is an elaborately carved pulpit dated 1668. It is said to be of Flemish origin and workmanship.
