The man whose portrait appears on the L20 note claimed that his pet rabbit wrote songs with him, and sent a little girl out with a butterfly net to catch notes for his next composition. Marjorie Wallace , founder of the charity Sane, suggests that to achieve the music's sublime beauty, Elgar had to struggle against depression and despair.
