Miss Chubb's theatre-going started disastrously at the age of four in the Dress Circle, but she remembers with more pleasure visits to the Gallery in the 1920s, particularly to those musical comedies and plays with music that caught her fancy, such as The Beggar's Opera, a D'Oyly Carte season, and some shows in which Jack Buchanan was the star.
