Another chance to hear last Friday's concert from the Royal Albert Hall in London, introduced by Louise Fryer. Thierry Fischer makes his Proms debut as principal conductor of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales with a sumptuous programme spanning 150 years of French music. Now 91 and still composing, Dutilleux portrays "timeless images of distant events," evoking a childlike innocence, helped by a trio of choristers from Eton College. Ravel's bittersweet concerto is played by one of the brightest French soloists, and Berlioz's nightmare visions give full rein to his passionate romantic soul.
