Richard Hughes (1900-1976) During his life he wrote only four novels: A High Wind in Jamaica, In Hazard, A Fox in the Attic, The Wooden Shepherdess, and it was a struggle to write them; yet he wrote the first-ever radio play, Danger, in a single night. Once he said, "After all, writing is a life sentence". Make what you will of that.'
The programme is based on his own recordings and writings and the memories of his family and friends.
