Appeal on behalf of the Mary Hare Grammar School for the Deaf by Dame Sybil Thorndike, D.B.E.

The Mary Hare School is the only grammar school in Great Britain for deaf children. During the last ten years it has developed teaching methods that are notably successful and pupils go on to universities, technical schools, and the professions.
All running costs of the school are met from the pupils' fees paid by the Education Authorities, but the school has no endowment, and capital expenditure for building to provide increased accommodation, which is badly needed, has to be found largely from voluntary sources.
