Last weekend at Goldsmiths' College in the City of London, young quartets from all over the world took part in the seventh London International
String Quartet competition, before a jury headed by Yehudi Menuhin. John Tusa presents the first of four programmes of performances from the competition, together with comments from judges, players and members of the audience. Today's programme includes the winners of the first prize in a quartet by Beethoven. Producer Tony Cheevers
