Composer of the Week: Villa-Lobos

Villa-Lobos had always been fascinated with cinema. As a young man he played cello night after night in the orchestra of the Odeon cinema in Rio. Over 30 years later in 1958 Hollywood commissioned Villa-Lobos to compose music for a film called Green Mansions. This helped him to gain recognition in the USA and when the Second World War finally came to an end the dictator-president Getulio Vargas fell from power.
