In which you will hear the experiences of someone who unexpectedly became' very rich and of someone who, equally unexpectedly, lost great wealth
What would it be like suddenly to have wealth, out of all proportion to anything you had been used to ? Would you go on living in your humble house or flat ? If you moved to a comparably palatial place, could your friends follow you ? Would you want them to ; would you still want to know them ?
It may well be that the acquisition of undreamed-of wealth is a far greater test of character then the losing of it. But imagine everything reversed. The standard gone that you were used to. You must dismiss your servants, sell your cars, move to a comparatively drab neighbourhood. Would your friends follow you ? Would you want them to ? Yet would you not be lonely alone ?
This evening a man who dramatically and unexpectedly acquired a fortune some years ago, and a once-rich woman who lost her money with equal suddenness, are to speak of their reactions to the jerk-round in the wheel of fortune, and the violent changes in their lives.
