THE B.B.C. ORCHESTRA
(Section D)
(Leader, ARTHUR CATTERALL )
Conducted by FRANK BRIDGE
Frank Bridge 's Dance Poem was performed for the first time, and conducted by him, at a Royal Philharmonic Concert in March, 1911. It was later favourably considered by Nijinski for production by the Russian Ballet, and but for the war would doubtless have made its way into their repertory. Yet after twenty years this work is only now to receive its second performance.
The music depicts emotions which a dancer suggests by' movement. Although it is con- tiriuous, there are the following sections : The! Dancer, Allurement, Abandon, Tenderness, Problem, and Disillusion. At the end the dancer hurries from the scene and the music finishes quickly and softly.
