Erik, Raymond's dad, the only Norwegian in Barnsley (apart from Dr Ulf, and he got struck off) suggested it to him as he sat in the tin bath in the sauna he'd made in the yard: "I'll tell thee this, Raymond lad, although a life is a matter of years, the bad things that happen in it are only a matter of minutes."
