John Hammond occupies a unique position in the American music industry. In a career of over 40 years he has been responsible for discovering and furthering the recording careers of many major artists including Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Billie Holiday, Leonard Cohen, Aretha Franklin and Bob Dylan. One of his more recent signings, Bruce Springsteen, is being hailed as 'America's rock and roll future.' At 65, Hammond continues to play a major part in what we might be listening to tomorrow.
