Matchplay Championship from the West Course, Wentworth. Sixteen of the world's too golfers compete for a total prize money of E130,000 and the title 'World Matchplay Champion'. The increased field in this classic event
-formerly only eight competed - means that the tournament is played over four days instead of three.
Among those invited are this year's Open Champion and us Masters' winner TOM WATSON (USA); SEVERIANO BALLESTEROS (Spain); DAVID GRAHAM (Aus), last year's winner; HALE IRWIN (USA), who took Graham to the 38th hole in that memorable final; HUBERT GREEN (USA), winner of the us Open; and LANNY WADKINS (USA), winner of the us PGA.
