Jim Black 's Alas No Axis
A concert given at last week's
Cheltenham Jazz Festival by drummer Jim Black and his group Alas No Axis. Black is probably the most sought-after drummer on the downtown New York improvised scene at the moment and has been an integral part of some of the leadingjazz ensembles of the last decade. Alas No Axis, his first project as leader, features Chris Speed on tenor saxophone and clarinet, Skuli Sverrisson on electric bass and Hilmar Jensson on electric guitar, in music from their debut album (Alas No Axis), a compelling blend of freejazz, grunge rock and ambient music. Presented by Jez Nelson.
Producers Steve Shepherd and Kathryn Willgress
