On the Feast of Stephen

on BBC Radio 3

Stephen Johnson fetes some of his musical namesakes. Not one of the great western composers was called Stephen but, as this rich musical anthology reveals, there are plenty of Stephens in music, even though Janacek's was drunk, Monteverdi's stoned and Shostakovich's lost his head altogether.
