Presented by Michael Howard
November 1941. Tension between Japan and America is increasing and the possibility of open warfare between these two mighty naval powers is very real. Japan, closely watching events in Europe, realises that England's possessions in the East are vulnerable to the quick attack. So too are the Philippine Islands which although independent, are protected by America. All these 'plums' can fall to Japan if, and only if, she can defeat or eliminate the United States Navy.
Tonight Michael Howard analyses the Japanese way of war and the fantastic gamble they took to try and win the Battle of the Pacific.
