David Simmons , using his own and rare commercial recordings from Africa, Cuba, Haiti, the Caribbean and the United States, follows a musical and personal trail across three continents. It's a trail of detection, unravelling a tangled knot of styles and influences of cultural and political backgrounds, to discover the rhythmic threads that led to the Latin ' craze ' in America and recrossed the Atlantic to become in Britain, both staple diet for such innocuous entertainment as Come Dancing and later a driving force for the restless dynamics of today's disco scene.
