TN the Victorian ago poetry set out to achieve a moral-or at least a ' helpful '-purpose, with the result that it lost much of its own essential appeal. This evening Professor Crofts will discuss some characteristic poems by Matthew Arnold , Browning, and Tennyson, and in particular the permanent value of Tennyson's poetry and the modern attitude to it.
