A Vitamin from Plant Pigments by T. W. Goodwin, D.se . of the Department of Biochemistry,
University of Liverpool
In a previous Science Survey Dr. Goodwin spoke about the orange pigments that are revealed as autumn colours when supplies of chlorophyll fail, and he showed that the ' hidden pigments' are a necessary part of plant life. Now he takes the story a stage further and explains that these pigments are essential to all higher animals because they are, in fact, raw materials from which animals build up an indispensable vitamin.
