HENRY JAMES

on Third Programme

Monologue written for Ruth Draper spoken by BESSIE LOVE
Henry James , unasked, wrote this piece for Ruth Draper in 1913. But she used only her own material; he insisted on anonymity; it ' bore his peculiar stamp and how could she give it as hers? 'I never learned it or tried it on anyone,' she said. The theme of the piece is ' the acute case of Queenship ' from which James observed certain spoiled American women to suffer.
