Captain Courtney is one of the Royal Flying Corps' ace pilots during World War I. Together with Lieutenant Scott, he is also a hard-drinking hell-raiser, whose favourite chorus runs 'Hurrah for the next man who dies.' But when Courtney becomes Commanding Officer, he sees the war in a different light.
