Mary Wimbush, David Peel and Barbara Lott in 'TANYA'

on BBC Home Service Basic

A love story set in contemporary Russia freely adapted and translated by David Tutaev from the stage play by A. Arbuzov
Pianist. Cicely Hoye
Produced by Norman Wright
(The recorded broadcast of April 4)
At the time of the previous broadcast, Edgar Holt wrote in RADIO TIMES:
' This is a lively, well constructed and continuously interesting study of love in a very cold climate. It takes us from Moscow, where Tanya and her engineer husband Germann lived ... to the wilds of northern Siberia. Here Germann, from whom Tanya has parted, is living at a gold mine with a new wife to keep him company, and Tanya, who has resumed the medical studies she gave up to get married, reappears in the new role of visiting doctor. Their meeting after four years' separation forms the emotional climax.'
