The Services Tournament
A commentary on the final stages of the Imperial Services Boxing
Association Tournament by Thomas Woodrooffe from the Empress Hall, Earls Court
The Services Tournament, held at one time at the Stadium Club, has taken place in recent years at various Service centres, such as Portsmouth, Aldershot, and Uxbridge (where it was held last year). This is the first time it has been staged at the Empress Hall, Earls Court.
One team each will compete from the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Boxing Association, the Army Boxing Association, the Royal Air Force Boxing Association, and the Territorial Army Boxing Association. Each team consists of six officers, one at each weight from feather to heavy, and eight other ranks or ratings, one at each weight from fly to heavy. The team winning the largest number of points is awarded the coveted trophy presented by the Imperial Services Boxing Association.
The semi-finals were held at
Aldershot yesterday and results were broadcast last night in the 6 o'clock and 10 o'clock News.
