Visions: the Music of Olivier Messiaen

"Birds are the greatest musicians to inhabit our planet," said
Olivier Messiaen. He described himself in equal measure as composer, ornithologist and rhythmician, and he devoted many years of his life to notating the songs of birds. In this recital, recorded yesterday morning at St Giles Church, Cripplegate, the composer's widow Yvonne Loriod brings some of Messiaen's birdsong to life. Preludes: La Colombe; Les Sons
