A hot summer aftemooon finds Richards engaged in tidying up his master's apartment, in an exclusive hotel at Brightport.
His labours are interrupted by the arrival of Mr. Todd. Had the latter foreseen the preaicament in which his visit to Brightport was eventually to place him, he might never have undertaken it.
