on Regional Programme (West and Wales)

View in Radio Times

A Radio Play by Cyril Roberts
Based on the book ' Siamese White' by Maurice Collis , and produced by Cyril Wood
East India Company's Opinion : ' Mr. White is " a very ill man and a great Interloper and a great Enemy of this Kingdom in general " '
Captain Weltden's Opinion : ' Mr. White is " a civil, worthy Gentleman and I'll venture my life in his vindication " '
Among the chief characters are :
Samuel White of Bath
Constant Phaulkon, Prime Minister to the King of Siam
Francis Davenport
Captain Weltden
Members of the Council of the East
India Company
The action of the play takes place in Siam and elsewhere, during the reign of James II
In some respects Siamese White might have been included in the ' Queer People ' series, seeing that it is an instance of truth stranger than fiction. It is the story of Samuel White of Bath who, in the seventeenth century, was made a mandarin by the King of Siam.
