Mr. Connell, who is preparing a study of W. E. Henley and his circle, describes the material available for his book and the method by which he proposes to handle it. It was thought that Charles Whiblev , before his death, would have written the definitive life of Henley, and much of Mr. Connell's material consists of unpuhlisherl correspondence between
Whiblev and Henlev during the years 1888-1905, the period of Henley's heyday on the Scots Observer (later the National Observer) and the New Review. Mr. Connell himself an experienced journalist, is particularly interested in Henley's work as an editor and in his influence on contemporaries such as Stevenson, Kip-ling, Barrie. and Yeats
