Walton and the Sitwells

on BBC Radio 3

When Walton was a struggling Oxford student in the 1920s, he was "adopted" by the remarkable Sitwell family, who gave him a living in Chelsea and a lively cultural education while he worked at developing his composition. Dennis Marks investigates what sparked the interest of the Sitwells in the unknown composer and the effect they had on his work.
