THE LEGGIERO QUINTET

on National Programme Daventry

View in Radio Times

This afternoon the Leggiero Quintet makes its first appearance before the microphone. The members of this Quintet are all well-known broadcasters, both as soloists and members of other light music and chamber music combinations. The Quintet consists of Edward Walker (flute), Reginald Kell (clarinet), Gilbert Vinter (bassoon), Frederick Grinke (violin), and John Cockerill (harp).
Probably the most important person in this Quintet is Gilbert Vinter , who will be responsible for all the special arrangements. It was his own idea to form a specifically broadcasting unit of five virtuosos which would devote itself to light music by the great composers. Vinter, who knows all his colleagues, intimately, scores for each one individually, at the same time calculating his effects in terms of the microphone and not in those of the concert hall.
