The Brave: The Mystery of X-Craft 5

on BBC Radio 4 FM

[Starring] Richard Bebb

In September 1943 three midget submarines known as X-Craft 5, 6 and 7 made their way up a Norwegian fjord to attack the German battleship Tirpitz. The commanders of X6 and X7 were awarded VCs at the end of the war. But what happened to X-Craft 5? Her commander, Lieutenant H. Henty-Creer, received only a mention in dispatches.

In 1974 divers recovered wreckage in the fjord which suggests that X5 also took a vital part in this gallant action.
