Aphra Behn 's sex comedy, first performed in 1677, one of the most popular plays of the Restoration by the first female professional playwright. In a Spanish colony during carnival, three sisters wander disguised through the streets in search of husbands, their aim to behave like men. Their meeting with a group of banished cavaliers leads to passion, intrigue and farce.
