Sidney and Beatrice Webb
The last of four talks by Bertrand Russell , o.M.
Bertrand Russell knew the Webbs well for many years and at times shared a house with them. ' Their methods of collaboration were interesting,' he says, * Mrs. Webb had the ideas and Webb did the work. In spite of the fact that they and I were Socialists, we disagreed profoundly.' But though he and the Webbs went different ways, and though Beatrice and Sidney were people of very different temperament and background, Bertrand Russell 's considered judgment is that theirs was the most successful marriage he has ever known.
