4-The Indian Experiment
When India gained her independence she had to weld together two different materials—the social and religious ideas of her own civilisation and the British traditions of law and government. How far has she succeeded in creating out of these two ingredients a political system that is really national and likely to be durable; and what, if anything, has this system to contribute to the development of Asia as a whole?
In answering these questions, Professor
Philips refers especially to the work and writings of Surendranetih Banerjea and Pandit Nehru.
