The annual celebration of sporting achievement, this year celebrating its 40th anniversary, reaches its climax with the announcement of the 1994 BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
Chris Chataway won the first award, in 1954, and Linford Christie sprinted away with the trophy last year. The team of the year and overseas personality awards will also be presented. Introduced from the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London by Desmond Lynam, Steve Rider and Sue Barker.
