Warwickshire offers difficulties to the writer of a Pageant based on historical episodes with a dramatic interest. While the county took its share in the history of England it was the scene of very few events of great historical importance. Rather did it reflect the trend of affairs and manners, remaining a mirror to the England of any time, but seldom the stage where history was enacted. It stood, and stands for the solid, unchangeable aspects of English life, less affected by passing matters than differently situated areas. It is the intention in these brief sketches to reflect something of these qualities.
